2013 / video installation ( two channel video, wood board, salt, brick, tile ) in MATADERO Madrid, Spain
Supposed by Tokyo Wonder Site (Tokyo Arts and Space)
This installation began with a simple question: If human beings lived longer, would there still be war?
With this question as its starting point, the work turns to elderly individuals—those who have lived through nearly a century of history—to reflect on the future.
In a circular video suspended from the ceiling, Spanish elders over the age of 85 share their thoughts about what lies ahead. On the floor, a separate video is projected onto salt and a small boat—a vessel that does not float, but sinks—serving as a symbol of both despair and adventure.
These contrasting elements—the forward-looking voices of the elderly and images of contemporary life in Madrid, including the fish market, city streets, and impoverished neighborhoods—are brought into dialogue. Together, they express the tension between personal optimism and broader societal uncertainty.
